I designed the house in the picture below. More conventional than I’d like, but resale value and planning restrictions made this an easier approach than anything radically different to the norm. I built a 3D model of the house in SolidWorks. 200 mm timber frame with cement rendered concrete block outer skin. Natural slate roof. Lots of insulation and PVC double glazing. A very easy house to heat in winter. No need for an unconventional heating systems, though I have one in mind should I need it. Maybe for the next house.
Built in the wettest Irish summer for many years (2008).
